Cooper's Hawk Perching

Identification:  This crow-sized avian predator is similar in appearance to a sharp-shinned hawk, but is slightly larger with a rounded tail. When you see a Cooper’s Hawk perched with its wings folded, focus on where the wingtips fall in relation to the tip of the tail. A Cooper’s Hawk has shorter wings and a long tail, so the wingtips fall several inches shorter than the tip of the tail.

Average Wingspan:  31 inches

Average Weight (female/male):  529 grams / 349 grams

Habitat:  Forests.  Preferred nest sites include woods with dense undergrowth and pine plantations.
